Jomsom Muktinath Trek

Jomsom Muktinath Trekking

Land at Jomsom (2800m) and you begin your trek behind the Himalayas. You will climb gradually along the ridges that are the foothills of the Annapurna's and Nilgiri. Undertaking the trip in a slow pace is the best way to carry out with the trek and with a slow pace problems during the treks are minimized. The landscape is similar to Tibet and the people over there give a good glance of Tibetans living in the automomus part of China, Tibet. There are many different ethnic groups along the trail, but the predominant people in this area are the Thakalis. In Upper Mustang, a restricted area they had separate King of the Bista, Dynasty and still after the implementation of federal republic system the former kings are considered the gurdaians of the small mustang area.

Along the trail the views of Nilgiri (7061), Dhaulagiri (8167m), Machapuchare (6993m) and the Annapurnas are magnificent. The various trails from which we can choose lead us towards such Himalayan giants as Dhaulagiri (8167m), Lamjung, Annapurna II, and Machapuchare (6993m). The part of Jomsom is the lowest part of Tibetan plateau and almost like desert. Muktinath is the famous pilgrimage site. The winding trail passes through magnificent forests of oak and rhododendron that line the southern foothills of the Himalaya.  After spending a night in Ghorepani, we wake up early next morning to witness the best sunrise view in the Himalayas, from a sunrise viewpoint called Poonhill (3210m). Poonhill is about 1 hour of hike from the village of Ghorepani, a village of the Poon Magars, a hospitable ethnic community of the mountain foothills.
